When you love someone, you do everything in your power to protect them. –Stephanie Boone, Wondercide Founder & CEO
At Wondercide, we’re thankful each and every day for the men and women who love our country so much that they would do everything in their power to keep us safe. This Memorial Day, we hope you’ll join us in saying “thanks” to a very special group who is making a difference in the lives of these heroes in the greater Austin area and beyond.
Hounds for Heroes
A program of the non-profit Austin Dog Alliance, whose mission is to improve the health and well-being of individuals and families through programs incorporating the powerful connection between dogs and humans, Hounds for Heroes trains and matches service dogs with veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety and depression. Training takes place on-site and in foster homes in the Cedar Park-North Austin area over a period of six to twelve months and may include advanced training to wake his partner from a nightmare or dissociative state, retrieve medication or help prevent panic attacks, in addition to basic training like sit, stay and leash-training. Improved sleep, decreased anxiety and a reduced need for medication are among some of the wonderful benefits the partnership provides.
Expansion on the Horizon
In a few short days, the Hounds for Heroes program will double in size with the addition of a new training building and kennel. Our team was eager to help “pave the way” this spring by honoring the original Wonderpup, Luna, with an on-site memorial brick, and again this month by helping prepare the property by pulling weeds and clearing garden space. The new project will feature a Tribute Garden to honor veterans and service/therapy dogs.
Our very own Lifecycle Marketing Manager, Nikki, joined in on the fun and had this to say about the experience, “It was great to volunteer for Austin Dog Alliance. Their Hounds for Heroes program is much needed and provides an invaluable service to those who have given so much of themselves to public service.”
Chief Marketing Officer, Laura, was also thrilled to spend the morning on-site saying, “These heroes give everything for us and it’s truly a joy to be able to give back in a small way. The work being done through the Hounds for Heroes program is incredible.”
Service dogs in the Hounds for Heroes program receive world-class veterinary care including necessary vaccinations, heartworm protection, spaying and neutering and a microchip. In an effort to help protect these amazing animals from parasitic pests, Wondercide will make a product donation on your behalf for each order placed from May 28-30, 2016. You can learn more about other ways to get involved by visiting the Hounds for Heroes website. We’re grateful for your support, and for the wonderful things being done at Austin Dog Alliance and are thrilled for the opportunity to help protect the ones who protect us, naturally.
Memorial Day has come and gone and we’re so thankful for all of our wonderful customers who made such a large donation possible! With your help, we were able to provide Austin Dog Alliance with over 600-ounces of Flea & Tick Control, 40 shampoo bars to be used in their adult skills training lab and 20 bottles of ear wash! Our Founder & CEO, Stephanie, was thrilled to stop by and meet the team, tour the facility and drop off the goods. Check out all the pictures on our Facebook!
